Attached are a few resources that you might wish to download so that you can type directly onto the templates as you develop your curricular unit.

Just a reminder to create a specific posting that highlights a way that you reached out to your student population within the community. Describe what you did and reflect upon how such involvement is helpful to teachers as they strive to plan to best educational experiences for their students.

Attached are the final field evaluations for your cooperating teacher and for you. Please check to see that your cooperating teacher has a copy of the field evaluation. He or she should have received one in a folder at the beginning of the field experience. However, if your teacher is unable to locate the form, please download a copy and give it to him/her. Please bring it with you to class on Friday.

The second form is a self-evaluation and you are asked to complete this form on your own and bring it with you to your field conference during the last two-weeks of class. We’ll sign up for these early next week.

On Sunday, April 6th, the local chapter of the NAEYC will be holding a Week of the Young Child Festival in the auditorium at the OARDC from 12:30-3:30.  During this event, families bring their preschool children to participate in a variety of process-oriented play activities that are sponsored by each preschool in town (a great way to get new teaching ideas and to see them in action). The children come and go from each activity as they are interested. The College of Wooster Department of Education has also been asked to participate. I am looking for volunteers to lead a music making activity for preschool age children. Essentially, we will have a number of different instruments appropriate for young children (like the ones that are used in ED240) and you will just model ways to use them, encourage them to copy your beat, etc. You would probably be working with just a few children at a time. If you are willing to volunteer for any amount of time during this festival, it would be much appreciated. Please feel free to bring a friend (and they do not need to be part of the Education Department…just someone who likes kids). Also, attending/volunteering at this event will count for the field requirement for ED260 that you participate in at least one professional event within the community.  Let me know if you would be willing to participate! Thanks!Suggested timeslots:12:30-1:301:30-2:302:3o-3:30

Attached please find the Smart Board Microteaching Assignment Sheet. You may teach with a partner or on your own. We will have a member of IT working with us in class on Monday, March 24th. Please bring your laptop, if you have one, so that Joe can assist you in downloading necessary software. We will also have access to the class laptops.  Smart Board Assignment Sheet

Weather on Friday!

March 7, 2008

It looks like tomorrow’s forecast will be a bit snowy. If your travel plans preclude your class attendance, please email me and Elaine at cepeterson@wooster.edu.  We WILL be having class, but use your best judgement related to your travel plans, particularly if you are driving home for break!

Don’t forget to remind your cooperating teachers that you will be out for two weeks for the College’s spring break. They have received this information already, but the reminder may be helpful. The week following our College spring break is the public school spring break. This means you will be out of the field for three full weeks!

Wooster City Schools (and also Montessori) are closed today due to the extreme cold temperatures and wind chill factor! Enjoy your day and stay warm!

We’ve just about finished our first three weeks of class and are ready to start field! This means it is also time to send in your first timesheet. Please complete a timesheet (just like you have for other courses) and document the number of “support” hours you have had in our class. This is defined as the time that you have spent working on projects and or group experiences in our class (and at home for our class). This averages out to about 18-20 hours of in-class time (plus whatever you have done on your own).

Also, please provide a brief description of the kinds of activities/topics we have covered in these past three weeks. I will print out these timesheets for you and hold them until we have completed the other two (after field and at the end of the course). These will be placed in your Dept. of Education file at the end of the course.
